Hosted by our dynamic Junior Board & Mentor Advisory Council, this event will take place on Sunday, November 10th, 2019 in Manhattan’s Riverside Park. Volunteers from all over NYC register to participate and fundraising for weeks leading up to the event day. All proceeds will go to help Bigs & Littles NYC Mentoring continue to support NYC families and children through mentoring and family support services.
You don’t want to miss this fun and amazing event featuring a live DJ, pre-race warm-up and stretch, professional announcer and customized walk/run gear. Please come and support the participants, join our community and enjoy time with family/friends for a great cause.
Your participation will help match a child with a mentor and support more families in need!
Bigs & Littles NYC Mentoring is dedicated to addressing the challenges facing vulnerable youth living in New York City by providing professionally supervised one one-to-one community based mentoring services, supported by life skills programming, crisis intervention, family support and referral assistance. We seek to improve the lives of children, empowering them to recognize, reach for and achieve their full potential.
We know the value that mentoring can bring to youth and families. Our volunteer mentors support their mentees through some of the toughest stages of their lives. Having a mentor and someone to talk to outside of the home has helped our Littles increase their confidence and academic performance, gain exposure to new activities in NYC and ultimately gain a new friend.
Bigs & Littles NYC Mentoring serves children ages 7-17, from low-income, mostly first generation immigrant families. Over 70% of the families we work with are headed by single mothers; and 70% live below the poverty line. Our families come from all neighborhoods in the four larger boroughs, with particular concentrations in the Lower East Side, Brooklyn, Harlem and the South Bronx.
Did you know that Bigs & Littles NYC has about 100 boys waiting to be matched with a Big Brother?
